Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLBTradeRumors.com asks if Jose Mijares is a possible candidate to be traded by the Kansas City Royals.
With left-handed relievers a hot commodity in the MLB, Mijares has a friendly one-year deal at $925K and has bounced back from a poor 2011 season with the Twins where he saw a drop in his fastball velocity
Currently, Mijares has a 2.40 ERA with 8.4 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 15 innings and his fastball velocity has returned to 91mph.
The Royals have control of Mijares through 2014, but he is a true “Lefty One Out GuY” who fares less than average against right-handed hitters. As well, the Royals have a similar left-hander out of the bullpen with Tim Collins.
Nicholson-Smith suggests the Royals may best suited to move Mijares in exchange for a “reasonably interesting prospect.”
