Throughout each baseball season, I find myself obsessed with the the chase to 37, home runs that is. Steve Balboni holds the Kansas City Royals franchise record, set at 36 in the magical season of 1985.
Here is a quick update on Royals home run paces.
No Royals are on pace to break the record.
The last time we checked-in on the Royals home run pace (April 28th), both Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer were on pace to surpass Balboni’s record. At the time, Butler had 5 home runs, on pace for 41 and Eric Hosmer had 5 home runs as well.
Since then, the Royals have played 14 games: Butler has hit 1 home run. Hosmer has hit none.
The paces are based on games played.
Player | Games Played of Royals 34 | Home Runs | Games Played Pace | Home Runs Pace |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Billy Butler | 34 | 6 | 162 | 29 |
| Eric Hosmer | 34 | 5 | 162 | 24 |
| Mike Moustakas | 30 | 4 | 143 | 22 |
| Alex Gordon | 34 | 4 | 162 | 19 |
| Mitch Maier | 14 | 1 | 67 | 12 |
| Yuniesky Betancourt | 15 | 1 | 71 | 11 |

As a corolllary thought, I have not verified, but I was told by a friend we have given up 6 road HRs and 24 home HRs. Anybody know if accurate?
What exactly are you asking? Are you asking about how many home runs the Royals pitchers have given up? Or how many more HRs Royals opponents have hit than Royals hitters?
How many home runs the Royals pitchers have given up.
