The Royals finished off a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in walk off fashion on Thursday night (4-3), the big hit being a 2 out RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth provided by Bryan Pena (Jarrod Dyson scored advancing on a throw to end the game). It was a great moment for the Royals catcher, a position that has been one of the biggest holes for the Royals organization over the years.
Meanwhile down in AAA, The Omaha Storm Chasers are enjoying the playing time of Salvador Perez. He has been an everyday contributor during their current 9 game winning streak (.371 AVG, 7 RBIs). He is currently rehabbing and is expected back on the major league club in the next week.
The Royals collective fan base will let out a big sigh of relief when that update is pushed across the wire. The fans have been waiting a long time for a catcher with the promise that Salvador brings. He showed glimpses of brilliance last year (.331 AVG, 3 HRs, 21 RBIs) through 39 games. If you compared that to Bryan Pena and Humberto Quintero through 39 games this year (.246 AVG, 2 HRs, 30 RBIs), you would understand just how anxious we all are to see Sal gear up.
It’s been a long time coming, how excited are you for Salvador’s return?
Do you think he can make an immediate impact?
