Wilmington Blue Rocks Pitchers Sugar Ray Marimon and Yordano Ventura Named to Carolina League All Star Roster

The one sure strong point for the Blue Rocks this season has been its pitching and that was reflected in Sugar Ray Marimon and Yordano Ventura being selected for the 2012 Carolina League All Star roster that will play against California League All Stars June 19, 2012 in Winston Salem, NC.

Sugar Ray, who was named an All Star last year at Low A Kane County, has a record of 4-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 13 games and eight starts. The team is 6-2 when he starts. He currently leads the league with a 0.95 WHIP and second in ERA and batting average against with a .192 clip. The Cartagena, Colombia native pitched 7 2/3 innings of a combined no-hitter for Class A Kane County vs. Cedar Rapids on May 17, 2011.

Yordano, with a fastball that regularly hits 100 mph, was ordained with the “Best Fastball” and being the 10th rated prospect in the Kansas City farm system according to Baseball America, has a 3-5 record with a 3.21 ERA in 12 starts this season.  He is second in the league with 70 strikeouts, third in batting average against with a .229 mark and holds the top K/9 IP ratio in the league at 11.25. The diminutive (he’s 5’11, 140lbs) Samana, Dominican Republic native has only given up 48 hits in 56 innings so far this season.

Carolina League All Stars were selected by the league managers, general managers, and the media.
